Samuel William Wilson was born in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, and attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry at Rugby. He served with the 6th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 22 July 1915 and was killed in action on the Somme on 3 September 1916 during an attack of the German left flank at Gillimont. Eight officers, 72 non-commissioned officers and 200 men were casualties on this day. Wilson has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
