David John Wilson attested for the Royal Irish Rifles on 31 December 1906 and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 November 1914. He subsequently transferred to the Somerset Light Infantry and was repatriated for Home Service with the 664th Employment Company, Labour Corps from 7 July 1917. After the cessation of hostilities, Private Wilson transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps and was discharged on 21 February 1919 due to sickness, being awarded a Silver War Badge.
