One Pound, 6 April 1905, A 201/001, signature of J.R. Wood, stamped CANCELLED across centre, various punch-holes (Douglas 31-1). Paper and adhesive residue on back of right edge and short strip of clear tape on back, otherwise about extremely fine (£90-120)

In 1904 the contract for printing notes was awarded to Waterlow & Sons Ltd. This followed a series of internal problems within Perkins, Bacon & Co which had raised serious concerns about the continued printing and supply of banknotes. Due to the shortage of time available the basic frontal printing was retained although a fresh design for the backs was ready for the new issue in April 1905
