James Feron, a native of Armagh, Ireland, enlisted in the Royal Marine Artillery at Greenock in March 1872. Following two cases of desertion from H.M.S. Pearl in the mid-1870s, he was discharged ashore as ‘objectionable’ in September 1883, but not before having received his Egypt & Sudan Medal, with clasp, aboard the Penelope in the previous March; sold with muster details.
