Richard Lawrence Baker, an ‘Old Etonian’ and ‘Gentleman’, enlisted into the Imperial Yeomanry on 26 January 1900. Served as a Trooper in the 47th (Lord Donoughmore’s) Company 13th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. Was taken prisoner at Lindley, 31 May 1900. but later released. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery on 25 July 1900. Whilst serving with 75 Battery R.F.A., was severely wounded at Buffelspoort on 3 December 1900 (name given as ‘P. L. Baker’ in published roll). Was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 7 May 1901). With some copied research.
