Albert Holt was born in Darwen, Lancashire. He joined the 1/4th East Lancashire Regiment at Preston in March 1915 and disembarked in the Balkans on 23 July 1915. He later transferred to the 1st Battalion for service in France and probably won the M.M. for gallantry during the German Spring Offensive in March 1918. He was demobilised on 18 March 1919.
