George Bettie Mutch was born in Aberdeenshire on 7 July 1891. A Farmer by occupation and having previously served in the 6th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, he attested for the 89th (Alberta) Battalion at Calgary in December 1915. Transferred to the 7th (1st British Columbia) Battalion in 1916, he went into action on the Somme and was struck by shrapnel in the face on 8 August 1918. Awarded the M.M., he added a Bar to his award for gallant services during the battle of the Sambre in November 1918. Mutch was discharged at Calgary in April 1919 and died in 1933; sold with copied service papers.
