Yencesse for the Comité Française, naked boy seated, decorating a vase, reverse Italian female with baskets stood in front of the Italian entrance to the Simplon Tunnel, 71 x 52mm (cf. The Milan Expo of 1906 was organised to coincide with the completion of the Simplon Tunnel under the Alps, the 20km feat of engineering linking Switzerland with Italy, on which work had started in August 1898. The tunnel was opened by Victor Emanuel III on 19 May 1906, three weeks after the official inauguration of the Expo on 28 April 1906.
