Provenance: Christie’s Auction, 7-8 May 1980, lot 582.
Four other original strikings in silver have appeared on the market in the current decade (Spink Auction 202, 25 March 2010, lot 192, 4.95g; Davissons Mailbid Sale 32, 6 June 2013 (279), 4.39g; DNW Auction T13, 2 October 2013, lot 469, 5.15g; DNW Auction T14, 1 October 2014, lot 527, 5.32g), which suggests that the specimen in the BM (Banks collection, E 2834, 4.42g) is at the lower end of the weight range for such pieces (Dykes, BNJ 2002, pp.154, 158), although other specimens at c. 4.4g are known
