T. Simpson (listed as J. Simpson on the Medal Roll) served with the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers in South Africa during the Boer War, and was taken prisoner of war at Reddersburg on 4 April 1900. Released, he was subsequently invalided to England.
