Walter Frederick Field was born on 7 June 1906, and attested for the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on 6 July 1921. He served as a Sub-Conductor in Hong Kong during the Second World War, ands was taken prisoner of war following the fall of the Colony on Christmas Day 1941. Initially interred at Argyle Street Camp, Kowloon, he was subsequently transported to Japan in January 1943 and was interred firstly at Amagasaki Prisoner of War Camp from 23 January 1943 to 19 May 1945, and then at Nagoya Camp from 21 May 1945 until the end of the War.
