An inter-War M.B.E. group of eight awarded to Major D. A. Graham, Scottish Rifles

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Military) Member’s 2nd type breast badge, silver; 1914 Star, with later slide clasp (5171 Sjt. D. A. Graham 5/Sco: Rif:); British War and Victory Medals (5171 Sjt. D. A. Graham. Sco. Rif.); Defence and War Medals; Efficiency Medal, G.V.R., Territorial, silver-gilt and enamel, unnamed as issued, with integral top riband bar; Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, G.V.R. (5171 Sjt. D. A. Graham. 5/Sco: Rif.) mounted court-style as worn, light pitting from Star, the Great War awards nearly very fine, the rest better (8) £300-£400

Duncan Archibald Graham attested for the 5th (Territorial) Battalion, Scottish Rifles, and served with them as a Sergeant during the Great War on the Western Front from 5 November 1914- one of the Lieutenants in his Battalion who he accompanied to the Front that day was John Reith, the future Director-General of the B.B.C.

Graham was discharged on 19 April 1916, and was later commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment), Territorial Army, on 31 July 1918. He served post-War with the 6th Battalion, was awarded the Efficiency Decoration in 1932 whilst holding the rank of Captain, before retiring with the rank of Major in 1938, being created a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Birthday Honours’ List of that year.
