M.C. London Gazette 3 June 1918:
‘For continued good work and devotion to duty. During October 1917 at Boesinghe whenever the Battery came under heavy fire, he invariably remained calm and collected, taking all possible steps to prevent damage to equipment or loss of ammunition.’
Herbert Smith Woolley was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery in March 1917.
