D.C.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in charge of horse transport conveying supplies along forward roads. Many of his journeys were by night, and, though constantly under heavy fire, he always managed to deliver his supplies safely. He has done good work in the care of wounded animals.’
Frederick T. Hills was a native of Chelmsford. He served during the Great War with the Royal Engineers in the French theatre of war from 28 September 1915.
