Defence of Jellalabad 1842, Mural Crown (Pt. * D- Doyle. 13th. or P.A. Lt. Infy. *) contemporarily engraved naming, pierced with ring and straight bar suspension, edge bruise, very fine £600-£800

Dennis Doyle was born in Borris, co. Carlow, and attested for the 13th Regiment of Light Infantry at Carlow on 17 February 1825, aged 18. ‘He served with the Army of the Indus during the campaigns in Afghanistan in the years 1838, 39, 40, 41, and 42; was present at the storming of Ghuznee, July 1839, and the Forts of Tootandamak and Joolgah in the Kohistan in 1840; was present in the several engagements in the passes from Cabool to Jellalabad in 1841 and in the defence of the latter fortress in 1841 and 42; and was present in the general actions at Jellalabad on 7 April 1842; at Jugdullack on 8 September; Tazeen on 13 September; and the recapture of Cabool on 15 September 1842. He is in possession of three medals viz. for the storming of Ghuznee, the General action at Jellalabad, and the recapture of Cabool.’ (Service papers refer).

Doyle was discharged at Chatham on 14 August 1846, after 21 years and 190 days’ service, of which 19 years and 6 months were spent in India and Afghanistan.
