Sutlej 1845-46, for Aliwal 1846, no clasp (Sowar Golam Mohummud Khan. Shekhawattee Cavy. Bde.) light marks, otherwise better than very fine and very rare £400-£500
The Shekhawattee Brigade was composed of artillery, infantry and cavalry. At Aliwal the Shekhawattee cavalry served in Brigadier Stedman’s cavalry brigade, with the Governor-General’s Bodyguard, and the 1st and 2nd Light Cavalry, on the right side of the British line. They charged right through the left wing of the entrenched Sikhs, getting behind the Sikh line. Brigadier McDowell meanwhile, with the 16th Lancers, 3rd Light Cavalry, and 3rd and 4th Irregular Cavalry, attacked on the left of the British line and broke the Sikh squares.
