Ghuznee 1839 (Corporal James McGovern 17th Regt. Foot) original suspension, naming engraved in reverse field and on lower rim, very fine £600-£800

James McGovern enlisted for the 17th Foot at Edinburgh Castle on 25 May 1826, aged 18, a labourer by trade. He was promoted to Corporal on 14 March 1838, and to Sergeant on 8 April 1840. He served abroad in New South Wales, 2 years 221 days, in the East Indies, 6 years 4 days, and was discharged medically unfit at Chatham on 29 March 1844.
