Elizabeth I (1558-1603), East India Company, Portcullis coinage, 8 Testerns, m.m. O, no stop after regina, 26.94g/3h (Prid. 1; same obv. die as FRC 140-1, same rev. die as Spink 3, 740; S. 2607A). Much of the lettering and toothed circumferential border exhibit signs of having been been tooled or re-cut, otherwise obverse very fine with pleasing olive appearance, reverse nearly so and well-centred, rare £5,000-£7,000

The seven other known specimens from this particular obverse die clearly show the punctuation between the words of the legend as contraction marks; the punctuation on this particular piece has been re-cut to resemble colon stops and much of the lettering and toothed circumferential border exhibits signs of having been been tooled or re-cut
