The dreadnought battleship H.M.S. Neptune was launched on 30 September 1909 and was part of the 1st Battle Squadron at the Battle of Jutland, where she fired a total of 48 twelve-inch shells and 48 four-inch shells during the battle.
William Charles Adams was born in Forest Gate, Essex, on 12 September 1897 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 27 April 1914. He served during the Great War in H.M.S. Neptune from 2 January 1915 to 25 July 1916, and was advanced Able Seaman on 15 March 1916. He was shore discharged on 23 February 1923.
