Charles Alfred Ward attested for the Oxfordshire Light Infantry and served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War. He subsequently served with the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 November 1914, and was discharged on 12 December 1915.
