William Charles Wilby was born at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and attested there for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, being employed in civilian life by the Great Western Railway. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 21 September 1914, and was posted missing, presumed killed in action, on 16 May 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, France.
