George Phillips was born in Winchester in 1869 and attested there for the Hampshire Regiment on 3 June 1888. He served on secondment to the Medical Department on the Punjab Frontier 1987-98, at No. 12 British Field Hospital, and was discharged on 30 November 1901, after 13 years and 182 days’ service.
