John Alfred Spicer was born in Brighton on 31 July 1894 and served with the Royal Garrison Artillery during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 June 1915, latterly as a member of the Trench Mortar Battery. He saw further service post-War in Iraq with the 5th Medium Battery, R.G.A., and was hospitalised in Bombay in September 1920 suffering from Malaria. He died in Brighton on 21 December 1967.
