33 medals to the 40th Foot with reverse date for 1864.

William King was born in Galway, Ireland, and attested for the 2/9th Foot at Glasgow on 7 February 1861, aged 18. He transferred to the 40th Foot on 20 August 1863, and served in New Zealand in 1864 where he was present at Paterangi, Waiari, and the three-day-long battle of Orakau. He was discharged at Dublin on 9 August 1872, being then ‘in possession of the War Medal for New Zealand.’

Sold with copied discharge papers and detailed biography of his service in New Zealand.
