Shute Barrington Piers was born in Weymouth on 10 April 1864, the son of Captain Shute Barrington Piers, Royal Navy. A bank cashier and resident of Lewisham, he witnessed extensive service with No. 1 District, St John Ambulance Brigade. He died in Croydon in 1947.
