D.C.M. London Gazette 14 January 1916; citation published 11 March 1916:
‘For conspicuous gallantry as Battery Serjeant-Major, whenever the battery was in action. He invariably displayed great bravery and coolness, and set a fine example of devotion to duty to all ranks.’

John Samuel Stacey served in France and Flanders with 26th Brigade R.F.A. from 16 August 1914. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery on 11 October 1915, and promoted to Lieutenant on 1 July 1917. He ceased to belong to the Reserve of Officers on 2 October 1934.
