Frank Gately served with the Army Pay Corps during the Great War, being entitled to the British War Medal only. Subsequently transferring to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps after the War, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1922, suggesting he joined the Army around 1904.
