George Ashmead Cole was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Cameronians on 23 December 1921, and was promoted Lieutenant on 23 March 1924. He entered the Indian Political Service in 1928, transferring to the Indian Army on 20 April 1929, and served as Deputy Commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan from 1941 to 1943.
