Gregor McLaren, a grocer’s assistant from Kinclaven, Stanley, Perthshire, was born in 1851. He attested into Royal Horse Guards at Regent's Park in December 1870. Promoted Corporal of Horse in July 1876, he served in Egypt for three months from 1 August 1882 and was later awarded his LSGC in 1889. He was discharged in December 1891 and died in Croydon in 1902.
