William Cecil Meiklejohn was born in Aldershot, Hampshire, in December 1898, and educated at Reading School, where he served in the O.T.C. He was commissioned Temporary Second Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, and advanced to Lieutenant attached 5th Battalion. Meiklejohn served with the Regiment from 10 August 1917 until 21 January 1923, primarily in India (this being his full entitlement). Having relinquished his commission, Meiklejohn joined the Metropolitan Police in June 1926 (awarded L.S. & G.C. in January 1952). He resigned to Pension in December 1958, after 32 years’ service, and died in June 1965.
