A scarce ‘Heavy Brigade’ casualty Crimea Medal awarded to Private Richard Forster, 2nd Dragoons (Scots Greys), severely wounded in the charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaklava in October 1854 and died from his wounds in January 1855

Crimea 1854-56, 2 clasps, Balaklava, Sebastopol (R. Forster, 2nd Dns.) officially impressed naming, contemporary ribbon, minor edge bruising and lightly polished, otherwise good very fine £4,000-£5,000

Richard Forster was severely wounded in the charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaklava on 25 October 1854. He was sent to the hospital at Scutari on the following day, where he eventually died from his wounds on 2 January 1855. The Scots Greys had two men killed and 56 wounded at Balaklava - 22 severely so. Several of these, like Forster, subsequently died of their wounds.
