M.C. London Gazette 26 September 1917; citation published 10 January 1918:

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his company with splendid push and determination until he was wounded after penetrating the enemy’s wire. It was entirely owing to his gallant leadership that the objective was gained in face of hostile shelling and machine gun fire.’

Hugh Vulcan Williams was a native of Boston House, Holyhead, North Wales. He served in France with the 15th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, from 3 December 1915, and was promoted to Captain on 10 April 1919.
