Frederick Greavett attested for the Royal Artillery in 1932 and after twelve years in the ranks was commissioned Second Lieutenant on 9 June 1944. Advanced Captain, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 5 May 1950 and went on to witness active service during the Malayan Emergency. He transferred to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers in May 1958, and relinquished his commission on 1 July 1959, retaining the honorary rank of Captain.
