A 13th century silver gilt annular brooch buckle, the frame designed with two pairs of animal masks opposing each other, their bodies formed by triangular panels of pellets, pivoting between the masks, dimensions 19 x 16mm. £100-£140

This buckle was found by a detectorist in Hampshire in 1989. It has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, ref: HAMP-8BEAD8, and disclaimed as Treasure.

Annular brooch buckles were highly fashionable in the 13th and 14th centuries and were particularly worn by women, pinned at the neck as a fastener.
