Greek Coinages, Katane: Tetradrachm, struck c. 408-05; signed work of Euainetos
Obverse: quadriga galloping around turning post, the charioteer crouched low, wrestling to restrain the horses; wreath-bearing Nike flying above, holding plaque bearing artist’s signature (partially off flan); crab in exergue
Reverse: καταναιων: laureate head of Apollo left, lock of curls falling beside face; knotted fillet with bell before; crayfish behind
Metal: silver; Attic weight standard; 17.16g/4h

Condition: Almost extremely fine, grey toned with a small edge scuff; struck from the finest quadriga die sunk in antiquity £6,000-£8,000
