Kings of Wessex, Alfred the Great (871-99), Penny, Phase III, Two Line type, Mercian dies, Dudig, aelfred re+ divided into four sections around small cross pattée, rev. dvdig mon+ in two lines divided by three crosses, 1.52g/9h (BMC 396; N 637; S 1066). Overstruck on another Two Line type of Alfred, otherwise good very fine, dark toned £1,200-£1,500
