Thomas Mitchell was born in Blaina, Monmouthshire, and attested for the 38th Regiment of Foot on 28 April 1854. He served with the Regiment in the Crimea, and was severely wounded during the first attack on the Grand Redan, 18 June 1855. He subsequently served in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny (Medal with clasp Lucknow), and was discharged, time expired, at Colchester on 10 June 1865.
Note: The recipient is only entitled to the Sebastopol clasp, not the three earlier clasps.
