William Brown Wood, from Stockport, was born in 1880. He attested into the Cheshire Regiment for service during the Great War on 1 September 1914 and served on the Western Front with the 2nd Battalion from 5 May 1915. He was killed in action later that month on 24 May 1915; he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
