Frank Arnold Davies was born in Bebington, Cheshire, in 1893 and attested for the King’s Liverpool Regiment, serving with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 24 February 1915. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 1/5th (Earl of Chester’s) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, on 21 January 1916, he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916, on which date the Battalion took part in the attack on Gommecourt, suffering over 200 casualties. He is buried in Gommecourt British Cemetery No. 2, Hebuterne, France.
