‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During operations he assisted a wounded officer to cover in a shellhole and dressed his wounds and also those of a private. He erected cover from flanking machine gun fire. When it was dark he went back and guided up a rescue party. He was slightly wounded but remained on duty.’


Samuel Edward Till was born in 1887 and attested for the South Staffordshire Regiment, serving with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 12 August 1914.
