D.C.M. London Gazette 18 February 1919; citation published 10 January 1920:
‘He showed great courage and initiative during the attack on the Sambre Oise Canal on 4 November 1918. When the work of the platoon in throwing a bridge was held up by machine gun fire from the opposite bank, he brought his Lewis gin into acting engaging the machine gun and put out of action. When his gun ceased to work through excessive fire he secured another and carried on firing.’

Sold with copied research, including a letter from the Regimental Headquarters, Royal Highland Fusiliers, regarding the award of the D.C.M.
