James Drysdale was born in Glasgow and attested for the Highland Light Infantry. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 14 August 1914, before proceeding with the 1st Battalion to Mesopotamia, and was killed in action on 26 November 1916. He is buried in Asmara War Cemetery, Iraq.
