Frederick Davidson attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers and served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War, being captured and taken Prisoner of War at Stormberg on 10 December 1899 (also entitled to a King’s South Africa Medal with the usual two date clasps). He saw further service with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers during the Great War on the Western Front from 3 May 1915, and subsequently transferred to the 1st Garrison Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment.
