John James Mason attested for the Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 22 August 1914. He died of wounds on 7 July 1916, presumably from wounds sustained in the opening week of hte Battle of the Somme, and is buried at Sucrerie Military Cemetery, Colincamps, France.
