Wilfred Goodier Hughes was born in Stockton Heath, Warrington, Cheshire in September 1902. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force in November 1922, and mustered as Aircrafthand and u/t Driver. Hughes served with No. 4 Armoured Car Company, R.A.F. in Iraq from November 1924. He remustered as Armoured Car Crew in June 1925, advanced to Corporal in December 1925, and to Acting Sergeant in January 1927.
Hughes advanced to Warrant Officer, and was commissioned Flying Officer (on probation), Administrative and Special Duties Branch in March 1940. He advanced to Flight Lieutenant in November 1942, and served in the Engineer Branch advancing to Squadron Leader. Hughes served with No. 40 Group Maintenance Command prior to his retirement in July 1955.
