Auction Catalogue
An early 17th century gold ring, probably Spanish, the raised square bezel with double lobed setting, the lower lobes scroll engraved, set with a cabochon garnet (replacement), between volute shoulders, ring size L - M. 1,500-£1,800
Gross weight 3.9gm.
According to a PMI test on the XRF Analyzer, the ring is testing as 22.01ct gold.
The garnet is a later replacement. The setting of the stone has damage to one corner. The lower lobes of the bezel have scrolled detail that would once have been enamelled, along with the shoulders, but none remains. The undersize of the bezel has two fine cracks to the metal. The mount and band show general wear all over and there is slight kinking to the band.
