These oversized watches were commissioned by the German Air Force for their pilots in the 1940s.
They were produced to the Luftwaffe’s specifications with 55mm diameter cases to accommodate the large movements, centre seconds and an oversized crown. They would have been fitted with extra-long leather straps so they could be worn over a flight jacket.
The side of the case is engraved F123883, FL represented flieger and 23 identified the watch as a navigation watch.

Movement: not running, balance rotating freely.
Dial: luminous material missing to the hands, numerals discoloured consistent with age, centre seconds hand appear to have been repainted, surface damage to number 5 of the hour track.
Case: scuffs to the plastic crystal, scuffs throughout the case
Gross weight: 141.1gm.
Please note that the above condition report is a statement of opinion only and may not specify all mechanical replacements or imperfections. Watches are opened to examine the movements, no warranties are made that the watches are water-resistant.
The watch has not been tested for the accuracy of its time keeping and would benefit from a service at the buyer’s expense.
