The ‘Cosmonaut’ was developed for Major Scott Carpenter, who wore the prototype during the Mercury mission in 1962. It was designed with a 24-hour display so that day and night was not confused in space. Carpenter wore the watch as he underwent a threefold orbit within the Aurora 7 capsule
