Trifling marks, otherwise extremely fine and attractively toned, extremely rare [removed from a certified NGC holder (2880326-008) labelled AU 58] £6,000-£8,000

A copy of the relevant page from the blog article accompanies the coin. Although Gary Oddie knew of five specimens, including his own, there are almost certainly more extant; four others have appeared on the market in recent times (Richardson, ex Lingford 1218; NAC 151, 1052; Cope, ex Slaney et al; SJA 14, 45). The Lockett specimen (2156) remains unaccounted for, and doubtless others exist in institutions. It should also be noted that the existence of Lingford 1219, a ‘fine work’ piece reading hib (Oddie dies O6/R9) demonstrates that more than one pair of dies was used to create such coins
