Watson rode in ‘B’ Squadron in the charge at Omdurman but was not present in The Atbara operations.
According to the regimental journal, the Vedette, he was a competent cricketer, being ‘a painstaking and steady bat, hitting well and freely when set ... a safe field.’ He onetime held the rank of Lance-Sergeant, but was reduced to Private, finally regaining Lance-Corporal’s stripes.
